And it's from Seagate.
Exos 20+ has, you guessed it, 20TB of storage!
Seagate's 20TB in a disk will be launched at the end of the year
No, it has 20TB of storage, making the disk the largest ever when it launches in December this year.
Seagate gets to save so much by using "Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording", but let's call it HAMR.
HAMR makes this possible - 18TB model also close to launch
The read speed is above 261MB per second (7200RPM), which is not exactly to be blown off the track, but the power consumption is below 12 watts, and that is good. This is therefore not the disk for games of 150GB, but for storage systems.
Can they handle 40TB by 2023?
Seagate also promises even more and even larger disks with HAMR technology in the not too distant future.
It will be exciting to see how far they can go with this technology. The vast majority of us no longer think of disk space as in the old days, when everything is served over the cloud in one way or another.
