S2 does not support older Sonos products and devices cannot be mixed
It's not just an app, but a major and controversial platform upgrade for two reasons: Sonos products manufactured between 2011 and 2015 are incompatible with the S2 app and remain on the S1. They will also not receive any more firmware updates.
Reason two is even worse for those who have spent a lot of money on S1 products: they cannot be mixed with S2 devices, so you have to get rid of everything. Sonos has an offer to make this a little easier, with up to 30 percent off if you swap S1 units that are part of the program.

Sonos reports:
"Sonos S2 is a new app and operating system (OS) that drives the next generation of Sonos products and experiences. If all your Sonos products are compatible with S2, you will get a message in the Sonos S1 Controller app with instructions on how to update to S2. »
