Steam on the way to Chromebooks, but is there any point?

Google works with Valve.

Google works with Valve.

Google and Valve are teaming up to bring Steam to Chrome OS. Google can reveal that to Android Police.

That means Chromebooks will have access to the gaming platform in the future. When that happens is not known at this time.

When Chromebooks running Chrome OS access Steam, users will be able to play hundreds of Linux-supported games. Chrome OS is also based on Linux.

What about the hardware?
But then the big question arises: is there any point in launching Steam for Chromebooks? It's no secret that these devices have relatively modest hardware - after all, they're built to essentially run a web browser. One might wonder if the machines will be able to run any of the games at all. The exception is the most expensive Chromebooks, which will probably run at least some of them.

Soon, more powerful Chromebooks are coming
Now it should be mentioned that there are also more powerful Chromebooks on the market. Especially the machines with AMD processors should be more notched on the performance scale compared to today's machines.

Also, don't forget that Steam supports gaming streaming from other computers, so your Chromebook may not have to do much work. Therefore, Steam coming to Chrome OS need not be completely useless.
