See what patent Apple has secured for the Touch ID comeback

Had been great to have besides Face ID.

In the current generation of iPhone and iPad Pro models, Touch ID is no longer offered as a biometric authentication - this has been replaced for the Face ID, a transition very many out there are happy with. Nevertheless, one cannot deny how practical and well-functioning the Touch ID was, and a recent Apple-registered patent suggests that this technology can make the comeback even better.

The entire screen can take your fingerprint
The patent is called "Acoustic pulse coding for imaging of input devices" and indicates that sound is applied to the surface to detect if something comes into contact with the screen. In this way, fingerprint reading becomes relevant throughout the screen, rather than a small area that limits the phone by being at the expense of a smaller screen.

From the illustration below it is stated that the fingerprint is read in what one places a finger on the screen.

Acoustic transducers are used which transmit encoded pulse signals as soon as it detects touch, which then generates an image of the data. In the process, sound pulses emit reflections that can be interpreted as fingerprints and analyzed.

Advantages to download
According to Apple Insider, this method will provide benefits over current Touch ID technology.

You will find that the components take up less space and that the fingerprint, in theory, can be read anywhere on the screen. The fact that there are no electrodes in place also makes the authentication faster, as the patent indicates that the new method uses less processing power.

Having said that, it cannot be ruled out that this patent will never result in any firmness, it would only have been one in the number of many. What is still interesting and makes this particularly relevant is that Apple has for a long time tampered with this new way of performing biometric authentication.
