OnePlus is going to launch TV: - We think we can change everything

It was Friday OnePlus revealed they were working on a TV. Now we know a lot more.

OnePlus will become a smarthjem company
Because it's not just a floodbox, but actually a 4K LCD LED TV. HDR is not mentioned in the interview with PCWorld, but we see it as a matter of course.

But why launch something with as little earnings per unit sold? OnePlus boss Pete Lau points out that this is far from just a TV but a smart TV. "We want to find out what we can offer in the smart home segment," explains Lau.

At the same time, he reveals that the TV becomes a "premium" product, but the company is willing to lose money at the outset per sold device to build a user base.

Do their own thing, but will have to trade the LCD panels
Lau believes that Sony has the best image quality, and therefore works to achieve the same image quality.

OnePlus must handle third-party panels naturally, but this will be a unique OnePlus product as they will develop their own image algorithms and image processing.

This suggests that a TV is hardly the last product in their forthcoming major commitment to smart products. Here's more to come.

Know the home theater market from the beginning
It is also far from chance that Lau's only want to try this out when the OnePlus founder was the head of the Oppos DVD department back in 2012. These products received particularly good reviews.

The TV is not the target in itself, but will be the digital hub for other devices, such as smart speakers:

"The TV does not just have to be a screen that shows movies and TV. It can also be a home automation hub that controls indoor climate and entertainment, or may also be the device you use to communicate to the world. "

2019
The TV will have smart microphones, like smart speakers, so it can perform functions for you and answer questions. The plan is also to integrate the TV with mobiles so you can get things like the calendar on your TV when you wake up.

"Things that should be easy, like displaying images on the TV from the mobile, are hard to get", Lau admits promising frequent software updates of the product.

We will learn more about the product early next year.
