Can this help Android updates come faster?

Rumor has it that future Android updates will be delivered through Google Play. Now there are several signs that indicate this is true.

Google test
Some Pixel owners, who are also beta testers of Android Q, now report having received a system update through the Google Play Store download manager.

It contrasts with today's system, where updates are delivered through the Settings app.

At Reddit, a user has published a screenshot proving that a system update was available in the Play Store.

What the update contained, and whether it contained anything at all, is not known. This may be a test from Google's site to check that it was delivering updates this way.

Interestingly, the Reddit user also claims that the Pixel phone rebooted immediately after the update.

(The case continues below the picture).

Simultaneous updates for all Android phones?
Anyway, this is very interesting. Since mobile manufacturers are launching updates in various cycles today, one can end up sitting on an older Android release long after the latest release is released.

This may be changing, and Pixel owners seem to be the first to test the new system.
