Recently, we wrote about an Austrian privacy activist who has filed a number of major technology actors for violations of the GDPR.

The highest GDPR boat so far
Google was one of the accused players, and now, in another case in France, Google has to pay a fine of 50 million euros, about $ 500 million.

It is the French National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) that issued the fine, which is a consequence of breaches of the EU privacy regulation.

The fine is the highest amount issued by a European regulator in connection with the scheme, which came into force in May last year.

- Deprives users of warranties
Google should not provide satisfactory information to users about privacy and how the data they collect is used.

- The violations take from the users important guarantees for how the data is processed. This data can reveal important parts of their privacy, as they are based on a vast database, the CNIL statement said.

The Privacy Policy requires that a company receive genuine consent before information about the users is collected. Google has not succeeded at this point, according to the CNIL.

Big fine, but could be bigger
The scheme states that a company can be fined up to four percent of the annual global income if some points are broken.

From this perspective, the 50 million euro fine is relatively modest - Google earned $ 33.74 billion the previous quarter.
