The company appeals the verdict.

Apple has been sentenced to pay $ 507 million, just over $ 4 billion, for violating a patent belonging to the University of Wisconsin.

Patent Violations
The patent in the case includes improving the effectiveness of a piece and belonging to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. The group claims that Apple chips A7, A8 and A8X found in the iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus and a number of iPad models, infringing the patent, writes Reuters.

Apple has previously requested U.S. Pantent and Trademark Office to review the patent validity, but has been rejected.

Anchor the verdict
In 2015, the company was found guilty of violating the patent and was then asked to pay 862 million dollars, nearly seven billion at today's rate, in damages. The sum was later cut to $ 234 million, around $ 1.8 billion at today's rate, following a ruling that Apple did not violate the patent with overlays.

District Judge William Conley increased the damages to $ 507 billion because Apple continued to violate the patent until it was released last December.

The company has appealed the verdict and has so far not wanted to comment on the case.
